Ask the Readers: Orla Kiely, Kool Aid or Haterade?
Orla Kiely.
Really love her, or really hate her?
If it wasn’t so ubiquitous I would love it — but I’m like that: I’ll shy away from something if it gets too popular. I also like people, like Raina from If the Lampshade Fits, who rail against things everyone else coos and aahs over. Gag me. Sometimes I get really sick of the twee attitude most ladies have on design blogs. If I ever get like that, leave a comment.
This blog should be about thinking for ourselves and sharing ideas for decorating on a budget — not about being dedicated followers of fashion. That said, if you love Orla, go for it.
So, readers — Orla Kiely, love it or leave it?

While I like a lot of Kiely’s designs (I was a kid in the late 1960s/early 1970s, so I’m just socialized to really like a lot of Scandinavian design), I haven’t seen anything from Target worth buying, especially when a trip to a flea market would probably net you the original stuff. I mean, who needs a petit fours cake server these days?!?!? And all the melamine stuff. Who can possibly use dishes that aren’t microwave safe, for pete’s sake?!?!?
