Store Profile: St. Vinny’s Thrift Store, Milwaukee

This is quite possibly the best thrift store I have ever been to. A virtual sea of furniture. A flood of vintage. A bounty to behold.

I have never once seen this much awesome vintage stuff packed into one space — unless it was being sold for 9 times the price.

And get a load of these fancy digs! The “thrift store smell” is almost a non-issue here. Almost.

This store MUST make your list if you live in the Midwest. If you’re ever in Milwaukee, definitely make the trip.

holy Moses!!!

i lived in Chicago for 5 years & never once went to Milwaukee.

now i’m in LA & all i wish is that i could visit “the good land”…(w/ thanks to Alice Cooper for the lesson in Algonquin).

We all call it “the Good Land.” In fact, Jem and I both think Wayne’s World is the most quoted movie of all time by people born 1979-1983. Does this guy know how to party or what? Anyway. If you live in Chicago it’s important to note: Milwaukee is seriously 1.5 hours away. It’s a glorified suburb. GO THERE. I don’t even have a car but I either take Megabus or iGo. Totally worth it.

I agree. I’ve been to this store and can honestly say that I’ve never seen so much very good furniture in a thrift store. Great place to brouse and buy.

wow, that’s totally crazy. there are a few thrift shops that i go to with good furniture selections, but none as good as this.

As thrift stores go this store USED to be OK, back in the 60’s and into the early 80’s. (and before) But now the prices are MUCH higher than Goodwill or Salvation Army stores. ..ESPECIALLY on furniture. The reason for the change is that this store is located in a neighborhood populated mostly by minorities and the store takes advantage of them and their lack of mobility to buy at the other cheaper resale stores — I would go so far as to say that – as resale items go, this place is a RIP OFF. The managers and department heads DO NOT DEAL or accept offers. When BOB (the old manager) ran the store ( for 30 years) it was run for the benefit of the poor, —NOW it’s run for the benefit of the corporation. AVOID this location at all costs. Especially if you are looking for bargains or even antiques of collectibles. These stores depend on DONATIONS …and most of those donations come from the local area. The area around this store has become so economically depressed that they get NOTHING GOOD and that’s why you don’t find good items form sale there. And IF a good item does come in –the price is SKY HIGH. Just MY OPINION, but I have shopped in places like these for over 45 years. and I’ve seen the NEGATIVE CHANGES.
