Store Profile: Stop! Look!

Stop! Look! is a secret legend. I think more people are afraid to talk about it because they don’t want it to be discovered.

I believe the actual name is Celio’s Segunda, but I’ve never asked Celio. He runs this place, where you will find all kinds of amazing detritus: Weird lamps; outsider art; a pull toy made out of a Pikachu, a green plastic ball, and egg beaters; hand-carved antique wooden toys; Mexican ceramics; old photos; a milk crate full of 8mm Danish porn… I could go on all day.

Tip: Be ready to haggle. And talk politics. – Nell T.

Stop! Look! is one of Chicago’s last secret junk stores. It’s too bad that so many of these — George’s, Chicago Thrift, the dozens of nameless stores on Rogers and Devon in Rogers Park — have closed in the past 5 years. These are tiny storefronts, usually run by single proprietor, crammed to the gills with vintage furniture, paintings, books, vintage housewares and — well — junk.

The great thing about these stores: you can find incredible vintage stuff at low prices, and the owners are always willing to haggle. And judging by the fact that this store has only 2 Yelp reviews, you can bet it’s still a pretty well-kept secret.

Definitely worth a stop, look.
