Vintage objects personified.

I always find the hardest part of creating Etsy listings are the words. “It’s an object,” I want to say. “This is what it looks like. Buy it if it pleases you.”  But Objet Petit A (an “unattainable object of desire,” according to French philosopher Jacques Lacan) clearly has no trouble with wording.

Shepard Shame
Sheehan was the center of everyone’s attention. He hung high above the mantle, stoic and solemn and watched dinner guests mingle and ladies drink tea and husbands yawn and smoke cigars and children unwrap Christmas toys. Sally was sad they only had a picture now. Last March, he had stood stoically in the foyer, his coat gleaming and teeth pointy and promising. But the taxidermist had been a cheap one and Sheehan began to dissolve and before long, all that was left was a paw and a snout drying on the carpet.

Each piece in this shop comes with a scrap of short story based on the object. Sure, it’s slightly Eggers-ian but there’s something quite charming about it. Probably because the shop’s anonymous proprietor can actually write. Charmingly. Wittily. Write.

Fred’s Day Off
Fred spent his day off lounging on the wall to wall staring at his portrait. Turley painted it at the insistence of his wife and Fred wondered if it were possible to hate something so much. Sure he looked dapper, clean, perky but Barry felt his job at the insurance firm was an ongoing crisis and every lunch hour he secretly wrote poetry. He felt his magnum opus had to be, “Which Way does the Spark Flow” then again ” Agony is thy Middle Name” could be the clincher.

And I love the ironic figurine staging.

Good writing, good photos — and the triple threat: great blog.

Oh, and I almost forgot: good watercolor paintings, too. I might buy this for a pending baby:
