Inspiration Folder: Dining Rooms

Decorating a dining room can be an easy and cheap way to collect and display modern furniture. It’s easy to break design rules by mixing and matching, mis-matching, and pairing odd mates. I personally think Eames shell chairs make any dining space look elegant, so if you drop a few hundred on some fancy seating you can save on the table itself. Or vice versa with a Saarinen tulip table.

Several of these photos are dining spaces with vintage, thrifted furniture — sometimes paired with design staples — sometimes just paired with more thrifted furniture. And it all looks good.

Inspiration Folder: Dining Room Walls

My old dining room had molding that partitioned off squares of usable space on each wall, which made decorating the walls a total no-brainer.  My new place has four unadorned white walls — that’s a lot of space to fill with no guidelines.  I’m terrified.

So I’m turning to Flickr for some inspiration.  How have other people decorated the walls in the potential art gallery that is a dining room?
