Flickr Find: Making a Space Your Own

cozy2, originally uploaded by corrosiveheart.

This photo, from corrosiveheart’s Flickr photostream, is a great reminder of how simple it is to take ownership of the small corners of your house — so you’ll use them for something other than storage of an unused window unit air conditioner.

Think of all the back porches, sunrooms, awkward corners, dens, alcoves and nooks that go unused for lack of a few tables, a reading lamp and a vintage recliner. Do you have a space in your house that could use some sprucing up? Consider yourself lucky and get to it: so many of us would kill for an excuse to buy another Danish Modern end table or a quilt. Right?

I have a “make it my own” project of my own. Once we have this room set up — which means getting an extra Expedit to divide the space and “privatize” the porch — Jem and I are going to get a (Tulip) table and turn this into an extra eating/studying/blogging/hanging out and drinking wine area.

At Home with: Curt in Bowmanville

Curt’s been amassing a collection of mid-century furniture, pottery and artwork for over 30 years. But he’s lucky to have inherited plenty of pieces — and a great sense of style — from his parents.

I visited him last weekend to check out his living room and sun room. Click on the photos to see descriptions and leaveĀ  comments via Flickr.
